Sayler - 18 Months
At Sayler's 18 month appointment she was 32 inches (60th percentile) and weighed 23 pounds, 2 ounces (40th percentile). As many of you know she was officially diagnosed with a dairy allergy in December, so at this appointment last week Dr. Filak (our wonderful pediatrician) referred us to an allergist. We met with him this morning and he said there's a chance she can outgrow this allergy. We explained to him that she can tolerate small amounts of milk if they are cooked/baked in things (pancakes, birthday cake without icing, chicken nuggets). He said to keep trying those things with our Epi Pen ready, but not to let her have any dairy where the proteins aren't broken down (cow's milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) We go back to him in December for more testing to see if the numbers have gone down. He said that the kids who outgrow this usually do so by age 4-5. We're keeping our fingers crossed! While this allergy makes deciding what to feed her more complicated and makes me worry a bit more, Tracy and I both feel that we are very blessed that she is healthy because it could be something much worse.
